A new platform helps farmers make money by improving nature

A new platform has launched across Devon, helping our farmers to earn money from improving nature on their farms.

The Natural Capital Marketplace (“NCM”) helps farmers find available nature-based projects, securing grant funding to complete them and earn new income from ‘ecosystem services’, such as carbon credits.

The platform has secured £62,000 of carbon credit pre-orders from Devon County Council, and has been built by the Biosphere Foundation in partnership with Siemens. The platform is free for farmers to open an account and explore the various available projects. Most projects are 100% grant-funded.

This new platform provides a fantastic opportunity for Devon to work towards Goal 11.6 in the Interim Devon Carbon Plan, which aims to ensure that ‘farmers and other land managers are aware of the options available for helping meet Net-zero on their land’.

If you are a farmer or landowner and would like to learn more or set up free farm advisory visits, you can register your interest, or contact Operations Manager, David Collier (David.collier@biospherefoundation.co.uk).
